Jonalyn Ousted!!!
After Joseph Dimson moved to Caloocan, Jonalyn Dimson became our new choir master. After a good run with Koro La Naval, things went sour after several controversies. From the start, most of us feel reluctant to the way she teaches. Some say that she was too strict. Others say that she was impatient specially to new members of the CTKPC. Others question her manner of teaching saying that it was too messy. Others say that the was too much of a perfectionist. Jonalyn Dimson , a Piano Major in the UST Conservatory of Music was long a ago a part of Koro La Naval. In my opinion, the groups rellationship with her was a bit shaky. To simplify, she was not that close to the group.
The ouster started when she didn't go to the Good Friday mass. Rina Enriquez (Koro La Naval Mentor), stated that she called Jona and told her that she will attend the mass at 3 pm. It ended up that she did not go to the mass but luckily Jason was there to play the guitar. Since then, Jona was no where to be found.
As the group seek help from their conductor, he advised that there should be a talk for closure with the group. Each side was explained to Mr. Dimson and he decided that Jona should be ousted. He also suggested that if ever Jona asked to go back to the group again, she should not bewelcomed back.
New CTKPC
Last year, the Christ the King Parish formed the new Christ the King Parish Choral. As instructed, the Koro La Naval supervised the formation of this new group. Many members joined the group. Former mambers of the choir from Centro, choir members from Silangan, a group from the alumni of Holy Infant School. After a year, the group gone through a lot especially with high masses and packed sunday schedules. One year has passed since the formation and the group has yet to mature. With a tough task of teaching with out a conductor, the group tries to adapt new ways to learn songs through music programs such as Finale. As of now, the group tries to learn new songs from the book Tinapay ng Buhay and will try to take on a contemporary song Paraiso (Ryan Cayabyab, arr. Fidel Calalang jr.).
Diocesian Choir
Since 2004, the Good Sheperd Cathedral formed a Diocesian Choir, composed choir members from the diocese, to sing in the Chrism mass held during Maundy Thursday mornings. Last summer, Ryan Crisostomo, Anette Alday, Glen Esgana, and Jason Enriquez joined the rehersals for thesaid mass. It was a new experience because of the number of persons involved in the said project. Last August, the Diocesian choir once again performed at the Eucharistic Congress held at Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City. This December, the group will once again be involved with the closing of the Eucharistic Year. Rehersals will begin in September.
Eat My Shuttlecock!
Koro La Naval is infected with the hottest rising sport in the Philippines. It started last year when we discovered a Badminton Court in Regalado St. and tried on the sport. The sport stormed the group and was playing regularly ever since. With the fast raquet action, the group really adapted to this sport and is slowly advancing in a more competive level.
